Forgot your Vault key? Recovery and the Lost area
Recovery code → no loss. No recovery code → your data waits safely in the Lost area while you start fresh.
Last updated July 7, 2026
You have your recovery code (the normal case):
Steps
- Choose Forgot Vault key where the vault asks you to unlock.
- Enter your recovery code (the long code in groups of five).
- Set a new Vault key — you're back in, nothing lost, and a new recovery code is issued.
You have neither Vault key nor recovery code:
You can reset your vault — protected by your password and a code sent to your e-mail. Because nobody (including us) can decrypt your existing data without the old key, your current forms and responses are not deleted but moved to the Lost area: a quarantine where they wait, intact and sealed.
- If the old Vault key or recovery code ever turns up, open the Lost area and recover the batch — forms return with their original links and all responses readable again.
- Or delete the batch permanently, whenever you decide.
- Meanwhile you work normally with your fresh vault and new forms.
Note
We can never shortcut this — "just unlock it for me" is the one support request that's technically impossible. That impossibility is your privacy guarantee working as designed.
