Swiss UVG accident insurance

Switzerland's UVG (LAA in French, LAINF in Italian) mandates compulsory accident insurance for all employees. Employers deduct employee premiums from salary and cover the employer portion. SUVA insures most employees; some industries have other approved insurers.

Occupational vs. non-occupational accidents

The UVG distinguishes between occupational accidents (occurring during work) and non-occupational accidents (occurring outside work, insured for employees working 8+ hours/week). This form covers occupational accidents; a separate notification may be required for non-occupational accidents depending on your insurer.

FAQ: When must I report?

Serious accidents must be reported to SUVA immediately by phone. Accidents causing absence of 3+ days must be reported within 3 days. All accidents involving medical treatment should be documented promptly even if no absence results.

FAQ: What if the employee is a contractor?

Independent contractors are generally responsible for their own accident insurance. However, if a contractor is integrated into your operation and you direct their work, Swiss courts may classify them as de facto employees, triggering UVG obligations. Consult your insurer if in doubt.
